I'm not sure there is an exact maximum size, but just use your initiative. Anything that stretches the page or you cannot focus on is too big.

i didnt get it how to do thumbnails without using imageshack lol
and this rule is only for HQ's? what's the maximum size of the pictures we can post without use thumbnails?
we have to use it in the "Post a picture of you" thread too?

yes, for HQs and large pictures. Large pictures would be classified as over 600px in width and about 800px in height. As lEx said, if it stretches the page it needs a thumbnail.
The rule mainly applies to the Nicole Photos section, but it would be helpful if thumbnails were used when any picture is posted

okay, I'm going to write this out like you're using a pic from the gallery.

1. so, you go to the page with the picture you want. I'm using a HQ pic from the CMAs, so the page is this one.

2. the picture I want to post is the first one, so I right click on it the way it is on that page, go to properties, and copy the url.

3. put that url between your img tags (using [ brackets in stead of <): <img>http://nkidman.com/images/gallery/albums/awards/acm08/hq/thumb_hq001.jpg</img>

4. Now click on the picture so you see the full size. right click again, properties, copy the url.

5. Now you put that url in tags around the img code (again, using [ brackets instead of <): <url=http://nkidman.com/images/gallery/albums/awards/acm08/hq/hq001.jpg><img>http://nkidman.com/images/gallery/albums/awards/acm08/hq/thumb_hq001.jpg</img></url>

and then you should end up with this:

I found a picture's url but the picture is too large, I wanted to make it smaller and put it on this forum again, but I couldn't because there is no attachment button.

I found a picture's url but the picture is too large, I wanted to make it smaller and put it on this forum again, but I couldn't because there is no attachment button.

Because then people could upload as many photos as they wanted, at any size that they wanted, and this would take up even more space on the server. For those who understand computer technical terms, this site already uses around 12GB which is a ginormous amount!!

It is something I've considered because it might be useful, but it would be too much work keeping an eye on what is being uploaded.
